Clostridiosis of farm animals is widespread in large livestock complexes of the Russian Federation. The disease causes significant economic damage to enterprises due to high mortality of sick animals, costs of treatment and preventive measures and reduction of animal productivity.
Among clostridiosis, the most common in practice is anaerobic enterotoxemia of young animals, resulting from rapid multiplication in the intestine of anaerobic bacteria Cl. perfringens serotypes A, B, C, D, E, F and absorption of the resulting toxins. As a result, animals develop catarrhal-hemorrhagic enterocolitis, intoxication, damage to the nervous system, often leading to death.
Currently, the diagnosis of clostridiosis of farm animals is carried out on the basis of the results of clinical, epizootological, pathoanatomical and laboratory studies. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay test system for serological diagnosis of clostridiosis has been developed. However, this method is labor-intensive and requires expensive equipment.
For the diagnosis of many infectious diseases, a serological method is used – the indirect hemagglutination assay (IHA). The essence of the method is that the reaction occurs when immune serum corresponding to the antigen is added to erythrocytes sensitized with antigen, i.e., carrying adsorbed antigen. This reaction often surpasses other serological methods in sensitivity and specificity, and is used for infections caused by bacteria and rickettsiae.
The article presents the results of studies on obtaining specific components for staging the indirect hemagglutination assay in animals with anaerobic enterotoxemia. For the manufacture of erythrocyte diagnosticum, toxoids and soluble antigens intended for sensitization of formalized ram erythrocytes, as well as positive and negative blood serum of rabbits to antigens of bacteria Cl. perfringens serotypes A, B, C, D, E were obtained.
