ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TREATMENT PROTOCOLS FOR PROGESTERONE-INDUCED DIABETES IN DOGS

When analyzing two protocols for the treatment of progesterone-induced diabetes mellitus in dogs at the Little Prince veterinary clinic, it was found that the treatment protocol using the drug Canisulin has a positive effect by 8 days of therapy against the background of a gradual increase in the dose of the drug. At the same time, reference values (3.8-7.8 mmol/l) of blood glucose concentration could not be achieved. At the end of corrective therapy, the blood glucose level was 14.9±2.6 mmol/l in the morning and 10.5±1.3 mmol/l in the evening at a progesterone level of 38.9±7.9 ng/ml. Performed before antidiabetic therapy, ovariohysterectomy made it possible to reduce the frequency of use of Canisulin, while the doses of the drug did not change throughout the course of treatment and amounted to 1 unit / kg. Clinical manifestations of the disease and the return of glucose (5.9±0.9 mmol/l) to reference values were noted on the 6th day of treatment. We can recommend resorting to the protocol of the control group in veterinary practice in the case when other methods of correction for progesterone-induced diabetes are ineffective.
