Currently, large dairy production facilities in the Ryazan region are mainly focused on highly productive cattle with milk yields exceeding 8000 kg per 305 days of lactation. Regular comprehensive obstetric and gynecological examination in livestock complexes implies obtaining not only healthy, but also highly productive livestock with full realization of their high genetic potential. The quantity and quality of milk yields are influenced not only by feeding and housing factors, but also by timely diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pathological processes in the mammary gland. Most udder diseases occur in a subclinical form, which, unfortunately, becomes invisible to the veterinary specialist. Lost time for diagnosing a hidden process leads to the development of significant pathological changes in the organ itself.
According to experts, udder induration is a pathological change in the mammary gland, accompanied by the proliferation of its interstitial connective tissue with simultaneous atrophy of its parenchyma. The development of udder induration is facilitated by diseases such as postpartum udder edema, subclinical mastitis, nipple hyperkeratosis and narrowing of the milk canal and other diseases. Despite the use of modern dairy cattle milking technologies, hygiene compliance, and timely diagnosis of mastitis, the incidence of such pathology as udder induration has recently increased markedly. From the point of view of recent scientific data, the cause of induration is a violation of animal husbandry technology and the presence of a persistent udder infection (most often streptococci, staphylococci, etc.). Cows with this disease are not allowed for further breeding, but if the raw milk producer is satisfied with the milk yield, the animal is left only for the milking period. According to most experts, the treatment of this pathology is currently ineffective, etiotropic therapy has not been developed. However, with the help of properly selected treatment, it is possible to slow down the degenerative process in the udder, at least for the milking period.
The aim of the research was to study the spread, etiology, symptoms of udder induration in cows in the conditions of a particular farm and to develop an effective method of treating udder induration during the milking period.
