When organizing feeding of cattle, attention is usually paid to the quality of consumed feed, correctly compiled rations, balancing according to standards, the structure of feed mixtures, etc. Less thought is given to the feeding technique, which also significantly affects animal productivity. Therefore, this article presents research data on a new direction – regulated feeding of heifers.
In previous studies, it was noted that heifers spend 3.0-3.5 hours per day on feed consumption. That is, out of 24 hours, animals are only at the feeder and consume feed at the above-mentioned time, and at other times they perform other ethological elements. This circumstance led to the idea of "concentrating" the time spent on feed consumption into two regulations with two-time feeding. Animals quickly get used to this new feeding method within a week.
The comparative efficiency of the use of regulated feeding in growing heifers in the age period from 6 to 18 months of age is given. Regulated feeding had a positive effect on the palatability of feed. So, at 18 months in the fourth group, the live weight of heifers was the highest higher than in other groups by 0.6-27.3 kg. The average daily gain in live weight of heifers was higher when using regulated feeding. Ethological observations of heifers showed the advantages of regulated feeding compared to conventional. In the "regulated" groups, the amount of profit was greater by 10.2-48.8 % than when feeding without regulation. The level of profitability was also higher in these groups by 2.1-15.2 %.
