REVIEW OF DATA ON THE USE OF GABAPENTIN FOR THE TREATMENT OF NEUROPATIC PAIN WITH EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF ITS EFFECT ON THE PHYSIOLOGICAL STATE AND BEHAVIORAL STATE OF WISTAR RATS IN THE "OPEN FIELD" TEST

The purpose of the study was to establish the necessity for the use of Gabapentin in the complex therapy of pain syndromes of various etiologies, as well as stress-induced pathologies. A review of the literature data clearly illustrates the wide range of therapeutic opportunities of this drug with minimal undesirable effects. In the experiment with clinically healthy Wistar laboratory rats (4 groups of 12 animals), the drug was administered orally at doses of 60, 180 and 300 mg/kg for 14 days. Side effects in the form of excessive sedation were not observed at therapeutic doses. However, there was a statistically significant reduction in anxiety and stress levels in the "Open Field" behavioral test: a decrease in the frequency of defecation acts in males by 2.4 times (at doses of 180 and 60 mg/kg), a decrease in the frequency of short grooming in females by 2.4 times (at a dose of 60 mg/kg), the absence of defecation acts in females at doses of 300 and 180 mg/kg. This effect of the drug may be potentially appropriate for use in livestock complexes with stress syndromes. However, further studies of the safety of consequences of its therapeutic use on animal-keeping products are required.
