MORPHOFUNCTIONAL PROPERTIES OF UDDER OF FIRST-CALF COWS OF DIFFERENT CONSTITUTIONAL TYPES OF CAUCASIAN BROWN BREED IN MOUNTAINOUS ZONE OF DAGESTAN

The paper evaluates the udder of first-calf cows of milk-meat and meat-milk constitutional types of the Caucasian brown breed bred in the mountainous zone of Dagestan according to morphological and functional properties. The studies were carried out on 30 first-calf cows (15 heads in each group) in the conditions of the agricultural production cooperative "B. Aminov Breeding Farm" of the Kulinsky district. It was found that among animals of the dairy-meat type, the desired cup-shaped and tub-shaped udder shape was found in 86.7 % of first-calf cows, which is 40.1 % more than in meat-dairy peers. According to the most important udder measurements, the first heifers of the dairy-meat type met the requirements of suitability for machine milking. They surpassed their peers of the meat-and-milk type in terms of udder girth by 3.4 cm (P<0.01), udder length and width by 2.8 cm (P<0.01) and 2.7 cm (P<0.01), udder depth by 2.3 cm (P<0.01). In terms of daily milk yield, dairy-meat cows outperformed their meat-dairy peers by 0.76 kg or 11.3 % (P<0.05). The intensity of milk production and the udder index in the first heifers of the dairy-meat type was also 0.32 kg/min (P<0.01) and 3.2 % (P<0.01) higher. For 305 days of lactation, 231.8 kg or 11.3 % more milk (P<0.05) was produced from the first heifers of the dairy-meat type than from the peers of the meat-milk type. They surpassed the latter in milk fat yield by 8.6 kg (10.7 %) and protein yield by 6.7 kg (9.8 %), but lost in live weight by 11.2 kg (3 %) and in the mass fraction of fat and protein in milk by 0.02 % and 0.04 %, respectively.
