Abstract

Rearing African clariid catfish (Clarias gariepinus) in recirculating aquaculture systems is currently highly relevant due to the unique opportunity to control technological processes and biological status of aquaculture. The aim of the study was to use an insectoculture-based feed additive in clariid catfish diet to correct metabolism and increase fish productivity. In the aquaculture laboratory of Kazan State Agrarian University, four groups of clariid catfish were formed, each consisting of 10 individuals at the age of 115 days, with an average weight of 312.5 ± 15.24 g. The first group served as the control and received the basal diet, while the catfish in experimental groups II, III and IV received diets supplemented with black soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens) at levels of 5%, 7% and 10% of the diet’s dry matter, respectively. The

supplementation period lasted 60 days. By the end of the experiment, the morphological blood profile of catfish showed an increase in erythrocyte counts, remaining within reference ranges by 3.4%, 5.1% and 7.2% in groups II, III and IV, respectively; meanwhile, leukocyte counts did not differ significantly between the control and experimental groups (40.24×109/L and 39.31-40.92×109/L, respectively). Biochemical profile showed increases in total protein by 3.9-22.0% (p≤0.05), albumin – by 3.1–28.6% (p≤0.05), globulin – by 4.0-26.8% (p≤0.05), total calcium – by 3.0-5.1%, alkaline phosphatase – by 19.4-25.0% (p≤0.05), alongside a decrease in glucose by 17.3-23.1% compared to the control group. By the end of the experiment, the weight of catfish of II, III and IV experimental groups had increased by 5.0%, 7.7% (p≤0.05) and 10.3% (p≤0.05), respectively, compared to the control. Internal organ weights increased in experimental fish as follows: liver by 2.7-18.9% (p≤0.05), spleen by 7.7-15.4%, kidneys by 5.9-13.7% and heart by 5.7-20.0% (p≤0.05), compared to the control. The carcass weight of experimental catfish exceeded that of the control group by 40-82 g.
